Performance Brake Shoes
Drum brakes can work exceptionally well, comparable to standard disc brakes (for day to day driving) for a fraction of the outlay. The major let down of drums is that the compound used on the shoes is not up to modern day standards and is variable between manufactures – brake fade happens too quickly in anything but town driving (try a two mile mountain pass decent in Switzerland on drum brakes !)
I can now supply performance brake shoes that are relined with a modern high friction compound that is very effective. We have not suffered from brake fade since fitting these to the front of the Hornet and it stops a lot faster as well. One of the best performance parts we have put on the car to date
The shoes are sold on an exchange basis – i.e. I need your old shoes sent with the order to have them relined and there is about a 2 week turn around. Front and back shoes are the same price.
A point to note – these do need bedding in/seasoning to work properly – they need to get hot to the point of fade and then allowed to cool down, after which they become very effective.
